Wildacres
Leadership Initiative

In 1995 to celebrate Wildacres’ 50th Anniversary, the Wildacres Leadership Initiative (WLI) was established. Its mission is to broaden the scope of Wildacres’ influence on North Carolina and its citizens for the next 50 years and beyond.

In keeping with the Wildacres vision, the founders and staff of WLI  created the William C. Friday Fellowship for Human Relations. Named for Bill Friday, an educator, policymaker, and philanthropist, the Fellowship endeavors to prepare leaders for the challenges of the twenty-first century.

With humanities as its focus, the Friday Fellowship provides a forum for individuals to train and learn across many lines of difference in a collaborative, civil, and just manner.  WLI promotes engagement with one’s own — and others’ — leadership practices.

WLI continually develops opportunities for Friday Fellows and all North Carolinians to step into relationships with one another while evaluating their power, place, and purpose in a changing world.

By incorporating the Wildacres philosophy with the powers of compassion and curiosity that were Bill Friday’s trademarks, the Wildacres Leadership Initiative hopes to bestow a “birthday gift” of lasting significance to future generations.
